Sycamore with Blackwalnut canoe....
Earlier I asked about building with Sycamore.....
Sycamore is a pleasure to work with so far. Mills excellent, bends well and
doesn't "split". So far I'm satisfied with it, only time will tell on how heavy it
will make the canoe. It seams to be "fairly" light so far.

Trying a new way to add the Outer Stems, I cut the BlackWalnut strips to 1/8inch tickness
or less and staple/glued them to the ends. Glue one strip, wait 8 to 12 hours, glue another....
Only time will tell if this works out O.K.

Nice accent strip on sides & bottom, to tie in to those dark stems.
That'll look good when finished.

Hi Sherm
Looks like a lovely contrast of timber colours. You could always make the strips a little thinner during the sanding and fairing stage if you think she will end up too heavy as sycamore is probably slightly stronger than cedar.
Cheers
