For four decades…

Bear Mountain Boats has produced wooden canoes, kayaks and small boats that combine classic lines with the most advanced marine technologies. Partners Ted Moores and Joan Barrett believe that anyone with basic woodworking tools and a desire to learn can create a small craft to be proud of.

Since Ted Moores wrote Canoecraft  in 1983 many aspiring canoe builders have learned his techniques. Canoecraft teaches a simple method of building canoes and other small boats in home workshops. Ted’s dedication to continually improve his techniques with simpler systems, user-friendly materials and creative new designs is at the core of his company. Ted’s books Kayakcraft and  Kayaks You Can Build, which was co-written with Greg Rossel, document his techniques allowing readers to benefit from his long career as a boat builder and are a valuable addition to any library. He measures his success in the thousands of Bear Mountain canoes and kayaks that emerge from home workshops around the world each year.
